5 Frequent Children’s Accidents In Summer – Being Parents

5 frequent children's accidents in summer

During the holidays, children go out more and seem to be more active. As parents, therefore, we need to be even more careful. We will, throughout this article, tell you about frequent childhood accidents in summer.

Frequent childhood accidents in summer: why are they increasing?

Childhood accidents can happen at any time of the year. Nevertheless, they increase considerably during the summer period. Why ? Quite simply because with  the warm and pleasant days, we do more activities in the open air or at home. The danger is therefore more present.

Obviously, that doesn’t mean we should forbid them to have fun. We just have to tell ourselves that they are more likely to get injured during summer vacation.

In addition, we must not forget that  if we go to a place that they do not know, they will want to explore everything and walk in places that can be dangerous … being able to get injured very quickly!

Children between one and four years old are the most vulnerable to bumps, falls and accidents. Especially if they are boys because little girls are generally more careful and quiet. This is of course not always the case.

One in four child accidents is caused by the lack of basic preventive measures. In other words, by the lack of parental supervision or neglect. Although it is obvious that we cannot constantly monitor them; and even if it did, it only takes a second for them to fall or injure themselves.

What are the frequent accidents of children in summer?

The time for vacations and family rest seems to be “ideal” for knocks, falls and accidents. Here are the ones that occur most frequently during the summer season:

1. Falls in the pool

If we have a swimming pool at home or go to a place where there is one,  we have to be very careful that the child does not step very close to the edge. Falls into the water are very common and can be fatal if we do not get the little one out in time.

To prevent falls into the water, you will need to place barriers around the pool or keep children away from this area, especially if the ground is wet.

2. The hits with the bikes

When it’s hot, it’s okay to go to the park or cycle around the block. Children need time to learn how to do it, and as they learn, they fall, lose their balance, or run into people, trees or things on the street.

When the little one learns to ride a bicycle, parents should stay close to him. Helmets are a great way to avoid blows to the head.

3. The cuts at the beach

Among the frequent children’s accidents in summer, we can not forget those that occur at the beach. For example,  when the child walks barefoot by the sea and gets cut or is caught by something  half buried in the sand; these threats can range from a piece of junk to a crab.

When children cannot yet determine what is dangerous around them, we cannot let them walk barefoot. There are models of very comfortable sandals for going to the beach, which will protect their soles, fingers and instep.

4. Falls in the park

In addition to accidents caused by bicycles, there are others that can take place in the park, and more specifically at the level of games – or trees and benches if they climb on them.

The park is full of children during the holidays and this increases the dangers:  they can run into it, hurt themselves, bump into each other, etc. It is therefore necessary to pay particular attention to the movements and the games they perform. And, above all, do not let them get on a game that does not correspond to their age.

5. Ingestion of toxic products

At home, we store cleaning supplies in a place that children cannot access, but when we go on vacation we sometimes come across accommodation that does not take this into account.

One of the frequent accidents of children in summer is related to the ingestion of toxic substances. If the child finds something that catches his eye, he can put it in his mouth in just a few seconds.

We also have to be careful if we go to the countryside or to a forest with children; some fruits and seeds or flowers can be poisonous.

Ultimately,  supervising children while on vacation is the best way to prevent accidents. Also, having a nearby medical emergency service helps treat the problem as quickly as possible.
