1. Newborns cry without tears

Baby crying is present from birth, but most newborns cry without producing tears. This is due to a physiological problem, as the tear ducts are not fully developed, that is, they are not fully open and therefore cannot pass tears through their eyes.

2. Loss of weight at birth

It is normal for newborns to lose weight during the first three to four days of their life. In fact, they typically lose 5-10% of their birth weight. But there is no need to worry, as this weight will be taken back and increased over time.

3. They do not have full teeth before the age of 3

The first teeth usually appear between 6-7 months and 12 months. Then, little by little, the teeth will be completed. However, most children do not have all of their teeth before the age of 3. As we know, these are baby teeth, which will fall out from the age of 6.

4. Fear of strangers

Babies, at around 8 months old, often develop a fear of strangers. This is completely normal adaptive behavior. But the funny thing is that most babies don’t show this fear when it comes to another child.

5. In the development of children, external factors play a fundamental role

External factors, such as nutrition, lifestyle, environment or health care, are more important in the development of children, especially in their growth, than other factors such as genetics or ethnicity.

Consequently, the childhood of young children must be marked by appropriate attention  to their basic needs and their health.

6. Rapid growth at birth and puberty

Children grow rapidly during the first year. In fact, during those 12 months, they increase their size by 50%. Then things stabilize and they grow, more or less constantly, about 6 cm per year.

Suddenly, puberty comes, when the so called “growth spurt” occurs. This stage lasts about 4 years. During this period, girls experience a rapid increase in height during the first two years, while boys grow rapidly during these same years.

Benefit from children’s development

As you watch your child grow up, you will certainly notice that there are a lot more interesting facts about child development than what we just told you.

Remember that your child will only go through each stage of their development once. It is therefore important that you appreciate each of them and that you accompany your child on the long path of growth.
